Meet Sam Newby
Sam Newby is a proud Jacksonville native. After graduating from William Marion Raines High School, Newby earned his under-graduate degree from Edward Waters College. His dedication to the city of Jacksonville is shown through his more than 30 years of active involvement in the community. Some of his greatest civic achievements include: serving as president of Joseph E. Lee Republican Club, chairman of the Johnson Family YMCA, chairman of the Republican Party of Duval County, co-founder and chairman of the Florida Assembly of Black Republicans and being elected to Jacksonville City Council in 2015.
Sam Newby prides himself on having a strong relationship with God, his family, friends and church. As a father of two and grandfather of three, Newby hopes to continue his work improving Jacksonville for the enjoyment of many generations to come.

Sam Newby cares about the community. Recently elected to the council group 5 at-large, Newby is running for re-election to continue improving the city of Jacksonville. He is a proud fiscally conservative council member with endorsements from the Jacksonville Association of Firefighters and the Jacksonville Fraternal Order of Police.

He is focused on downtown development and bringing more high-paying jobs to Jacksonville.
Newby strongly believes in respecting and preserving Jacksonville’s greatest asset: the St. John’s River.
He continuously works to provide low-income housing options and economic support for everyone.
